Is an invasion of wasps on its way.
Wasp-haters could find themselves running for cover this summer – as experts predict a bumper year for the stinging insect.
A survey issued by the British Pest Control Association found that Nottingham City Council was called out to deal with wasp and bee problems 929 times in 2013-14 – an increase on 514 times the previous year.
And due to the chilly winter and early spring, followed by warmer-than-average temperatures, experts believe there may be even more wasps this year.
Dr Christopher Terrell-Nield, an entomologist at Nottingham Trent University, said: “It is very likely we’ll see more wasp nests this year, unless we have a cold wet summer.
