FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — Bee removal experts have cleared away about 100,000 bees that had infested the inside walls of a South Florida home.

Homeowner Donna Reynolds said, thousands of bees have been infesting the inside walls of her Fort Lauderdale residence for about eight years. Reynolds said she has tried to get rid of the bees by dumping foam and insect killer. She said the problem was slightly eliminated, but the bees came back three years later, and this time even stronger. That’s when she said it was time to call the professionals.

“They got to go, they got to go,” said Reynolds Friday morning as bee removal experts worked at her home. “I can’t take them any more just hovering around. You can’t even open your windows. If you have a tiny little hole, one of them would get in.”

Bee removal experts arrived Friday morning to eradicate the bees. Crews had to rip the bricks on the home apart and then cut away some of the drywall where they found giant honey combs with about 60,000 to 100,000 bees.

It remains unknown if the bees infesting the home are Africanized bees, better known as killer bees. Bee removal experts said, the bees infesting the home did not swarm as killer bees would. They said the only way to find out is to take a sample of them up to a lab in Gainesville for DNA testing.
